Genesis 6:1-4 (Part 3) Transformation Transcript

Welcome back to Genesis 6.

How do we respond to all this wonderful Truth that we see in Genesis 6?

How will our hearts be changed and our lives be different tomorrow if we believe and act on what God has revealed?

Guard Your Heart

First, we’ll certainly be vigilant to guard our hearts and our minds against the allure of sin.

We’re not going to be naive to sin’s allure. We’re not going to give ourselves more credit either for having strength against sin than we deserve.

We’re not going to tiptoe up to the edge of sin and think, “I would never cross the line!”  Uh, yes, you would! Unless you believe and act on this.

If you believe and act on this, you won’t.

Put On the Armor of God—And Keep it On!

If you believe and act on this, you will just tighten up that armor—that spiritual armor of God that Paul told us about.

This is what helps us keep strong against the enemy’s tactics.

Did you notice that Paul told us to put on the armor of God, but nowhere in Scripture does it say that at the end of the day, go brush your teeth, take your armor of God off, and hang it up in the closet?

(Or if you’re more like me, toss it onto the floor until tomorrow.)

Put on your armor of God and leave it on forever, because if we believe and act on what God has revealed, we will not want to take our armor off.

Stand Strong Against Temptation—Choose Holiness

Next, as Christians, we will remember that we have Christ’s nature.

Yeah, we have a sin nature, but we have Christ’s nature.

So when temptation comes— and it will because like I said we still have our sin nature— (We’re not naive). When temptation comes, we won’t give in. We will stand strong.

We will choose holiness over sin every time—if we really believe what God has said here.

“Oh, Lord, we believe! Help our unbelief, please!”

God will provide a way out of the temptation, and if we believe, we’ll always take it.

That’s how we know whether or not we believe or don’t believe because if we’re stumbling and falling, there’s something we’re not believing. It’s good for us to know that.

We want to know when we’re, when our faith is not believing what we say we believe so that we can run back to the Word of God and to the Truth and believe.

He is Our Strength!

If we believe and act on what God has revealed here, we will remember that in our flesh we’re weak, but He is strong. He is our strength.

You’ve probably heard it said that Christianity is a crutch. Oh, that used to bother me so much when I would hear that—until I realized, Uh yeah, Christians are weak!

Yeah, we need more than a crutch. We’re all born dead in our sins. You don’t get any weaker than dead.

But praise God, in Christ, we have been made alive. He is our strength, and we can’t get any stronger than that.

So we’ll remember that yes, in our flesh we’re weak. We need more than a crutch, and that’s why we have Him. He is our strength.

You know, Jesus’ disciples failed to stay awake and pray in the Garden of Gethsemane even though Jesus told them to stay awake and pray with him. He came back, and they were sound asleep, so He told them, “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

But Paul wrote, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, (this is Paul writing) I would rather boast about my weaknesses so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, well content with insults, with distresses, with persecution, with difficulties for Christ’s sake. Can you imagine that? Well content!

“For when I am weak then I am strong.”  You know we may not know exactly who the sons of God, the daughters of men, or the Nephilim were, but we know who God is. We can know through His Word. We can know His goodness, His mercy, and His holiness, and in Him, we always have hope.
