Simply because the Lord loves you.
God had promised the Israelites He’d give them cities they didn’t build and vineyards they didn’t plant, but not because they were great.
They weren’t, and He knew it. Even before He chose to bless them, He’d known it.
Their worthiness didn’t matter. His love did. (Deuteronomy 7:7-8)
As I read Deuteronomy 7, I felt like God’s promise to the Israelites had become a letter of promise to me.
I hurried to my computer and wrote a Letter from God based on portions of Deuteronomy 6 and 7.
This Letter still strengthens and comforts me 15 or so years after I first wrote it.
I hope it will encourage you, too.
My Dear Child,
Soon, I’ll bring you into the land (the victory) I’ve sworn to give you.
I’ll hand over prosperous cities you didn’t build, houses stocked with goods you didn’t produce, water from wells you didn’t dig, and food from vineyards you didn’t plant.
I will do this.
Child, there are challenges and struggles you’ll face in life that would utterly destroy you if you even considered fighting them on your own.
I’ll hand them over to you.
You look at the size of your trials and struggles, and you’re afraid.
You don’t see any possibility of gaining the victory, small as you are, but you’ve forgotten I am the One who fights for you.
There’s no city, fortress, or obstacle I cannot bring down in an instant.
I’ve chosen you, Child, as my special treasure, to lavish My love on you. But not because of your greatness, for indeed you are the smallest of all.
I’ve chosen to lavish on you simply because I love you.
And because I’ve made My promise to you that I’ll love you with an unfailing love and hand over your enemies (the lies that defeat and imprison you). I am faithful and true.
Remember what I, the Lord your God, did to Pharaoh and to all the land of Egypt.
Remember the miraculous signs and wonders I used when I brought you out of Egypt.
I, the Lord your God, will use this same power against the struggles and obstacles standing in your way and which you fear, only trust and obey Me.
And then I, the Lord your God, will send hornets to drive out the few survivors still hiding from you.
What is hidden from you will be exposed by Me.
My victory is complete, but I’ll do it little by little.
If I let you put an end to your enemies quickly or all at once, the wild animals (those things that come after a battle) would multiply too quickly for you.
These beasts, like pride, could prove to be an even more formidable enemy for you, for pride is as attracted to victory as wild animals are to the carnage of battle.
If your victory came too quickly, you’d think you gained the victory by yourself. You wouldn’t learn to trust in Me for deliverance.
While the victory may feel slow in coming, don’t fear. My victory will surely come right on time — never early or late.
I’ve chosen to give you this victory step-by-step because I love you. I know best how to make you into a mighty “nation” — the person I’ve created you to be.
Don’t be afraid.
I will utterly defeat your enemies.
I will hand them over to you.
Their names will be erased from the face of the earth.
I have declared it.
You have this victory for no other reason than because I am your God, and I have chosen to give it to you because I love you.
But I will not force it upon you. Trust and obey Me and receive the victory.
I am handing it to you if you’ll only believe and receive what I’ve promised.
I love you, Child, and I am your God.
Can I get an Amen?

AMEN and AMEN!
Two Amens! I like that! 🙂
