"The former things have passed away." ~ Revelation 21:4

“The former things have passed away.” ~ Revelation 21:4

Death is awful.

It’s worse than awful. It’s every bad word you’ve ever had your mouth washed out for saying!

We weren’t created to die. We were created to live!

The only time death will be joyful is when sin and death die forever.

Until then, we must face it and the excruciating pain of separation.

Thankfully, however, that doesn’t have to be the end of the story.

For those who choose, resurrection comes next.

Resurrection is incredible!

The joy of reunion is sublime!

A New Life and a New Beginning.

Noah and his family experienced a new life and a new beginning, having waited eagerly for it.

After the forty days and nights of deluge, Noah and his family drifted across the water according to God’s plan.

While they were securely hidden in the ark from the flood, it was as if they were in a floating coffin. Apart from the Lord bringing them out, they were as good as dead.

They longed for a resurrection.

This is a Red Thread Clue.

Noah and his family passed through the waters inside the ark, as good as dead and buried, until God brought them out — Resurrection!

Jesus Christ died and was buried in the grave until the third day, when God raised Him from the dead — Resurrection!

Peter spoke of this when he wrote:

to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also–not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ”
~ I Peter 3:20-21 (NIV)

The ark and baptism are pictures of the same message: We’ve passed through the waters of judgement for our sin and stepped into life by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:23)

Just as Noah and his family had no hope if they were to remain forever buried in the ark, we’d have no hope and no life If Christ had remained in the grave.

But He didn’t!

God raised Jesus from the dead!

Christ stepped out of the grave offering new life to all who choose to believe and follow Him.

Resurrection is incredible!

The joy of reunion is sublime!

Everything changed for Christ’s followers that day. It was possibly the most joyous time the world has ever known as word spread faster than the flood that Jesus Christ was alive.

Similarly, Noah and his family must have experienced intense joy as they stepped out of the ark, resurrected into their new life (Genesis 8:14-19).

It must have also been sobering for them to finally stand on dry ground and understand more fully the astounding grace of God that He saved them.

Their entire world had changed.

Everything was now fresh and new, and they were alive!

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.
Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live,
~ John 11:25

Like flowers after a long winter, God brings life to us where once there was death.

With Christ death is not the end of the story.

With Christ there is always a resurrection.

And Resurrection is incredible!

I know I said in my previous post that this would be my last Red Thread in Noah’s Ark post, however, I have one more that’s too important to leave out. So, stay tuned for my next (and final?) post in the The Red Thread in Noah’s Ark series.

What has God been teaching you through the life of Noah?  I’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment in the comment section or send me an email.
