24 Hours Before. Christ's "24 Hours Before" changed everything forever. None of us know when our 24 Hours Before will be, but Christ did.

On this beautiful Good Friday, I’m thrilled to bring you the continuation of my friend Traci Burn’s reflections.

She’s walked a painful path but has found the Lord faithful every step of the way.

Even 24 hours before. [Read more…]

While the disciples mourned,

God moved.

While the world slept,

God moved.

One day.

Two days.

Three days.

Reality sunk in.

Jesus was gone.

The earth shook.

The stone rolled away.

The Truth was revealed.

Jesus was gone.

He had risen from the grave.

He’s alive!

Sin, death, and all the powers of darkness could not hold the King.

Arise, My Love! [Read more…]

My mother told me that I’d never really understand the New Testament until I understood the Old Testament.

My mother was right.

It turns out that the Levitical laws are exciting to study after all.

Understanding these laws turns our simple curious wonder over the veil in the Temple being torn from top to bottom as Christ died on the cross into flat-out, jaw-dropping shock and amazement.

But, of course, before we get into this, we need our mood music — our soundtrack to Jesus’ life.

As I’ve done all week, I’ve chosen a song from Michael W. Smith’s “Freedom” album. Today’s song is “The Call.”

Today is Good Friday — the day Adam and Eve looked forward to since the Garden of Eden.

From the moment God gave them the promise of a Savior and clothed them in the skin of an innocent animal who died to cover their shame, they looked for this day.

Before we look at Christ on the cross and His last seven words, though, I want us to focus our hearts by listening to Michael W. Smith’s brilliant song “Freedom Battle.” I think he may have had Good Friday in mind when he wrote this song. [Read more…]

God is in the details.

Long before Jesus would be betrayed and stand before Pilate on Good Friday, God was working.

Maybe 33 years earlier, a Jewish mother and father gazed upon their newborn son. I can imagine their conversation.

“He’s so beautiful,” the mother says to the father. “And, look, he has your eyes. Let’s call him Barabbas, son of the father.”

The proud father smiles.

Years fly by, and Barabbas grows up.

Somewhere along the path of his life, Barabbas becomes involved with a terrorist group in the midst of an attempted revolution and becomes a murderer. (Mark 15:7, Luke 23:19)

Arrested, Barabbas, the son of the father, now sits in prison as Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, stands before Pilate.

Pilate looks at Jesus and then down upon the crowd of angry Jews.

Now that I’ve set the scene, let’s cue the soundtrack. [Read more…]
