Big Daddy Weave sings “The Only Name” ~ Philippians 2:9-10

Making a name for ourselves has been popular since The Tower of Babel, but the day is coming when everyone, everywhere will proclaim only one name:

Jesus.

In each life, there’ll be hundreds of impactful names that will touch our lives, but there’ll only be one name that will matter, because only one name has the power to save.

Only one name will never fail us.

Only one name says it all.

 For this
reason also,
God highly exalted Him,
and bestowed on Him the name
which is above every name,

so that at the
name of Jesus
every knee will bow,
of those who are
in heaven and on earth
and under the earth,
~ Philippians 2:9-10

Speaking of names, if you’re as curious as I was about the band’s name, Big Daddy Weave, you’ll enjoy the story I read in The Christian Music Review Blog

Lead singer Mike “Big Daddy” Weaver invited his brother and two other musicians he’d met to an impromptu jam session in college.

Someone wandered by who was planning a campus event.  They invited them on the spot to open for the event. When asked for the name of their band, they didn’t know what to say. They’d only been a band for 15 minutes.

Mike had a nick name and a sense of humor, but no band name.

He jokingly threw out “Big Daddy Weave of the Institution.”

Thirteen years later, they’ve since dropped “of the Institution,” and risen to the top of the charts thanks to their great music, powerful lyrics, and a passion to exalt the name of Christ.

Mike jokingly recommends upcoming bands think before they throw out a band name because they might be stuck explaining it for a long time.

In the end, I doubt Big Daddy Weave cares what they’re called because, as they sing so well, Christ’s name will be the only name that matters to them.
