I’m a writer. Words almost pour out of my fingertips.
Sometimes they pour out blessings. Sometimes they pour out like my garden hose, which is currently broken. Riddled with leaks, it sprays a mess of water everywhere.
Words can spray out of my mouth or off my fingertips onto the page and create a muddy mess. But what if my words actually saved a life.
For the word of the cross
is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved
it is the power of God.
(I Corinthians 1:18, NASB)
We never really know what a difference our words can make, but the Word of God never fails. It didn’t fail me. In fact, it saved my life.
Sidewalk Prophets’s song “Save My Life” convicted, challenged, and encouraged me in the power of words to save a life. Listen and you’ll be encouraged, too.
While in prison, my friend Charles Livingston heard the Words of life. They saved his life.
He told me his story, and I shared it in Reach Out, Columbia magazine. He and I both still get calls about the impact of his story.
People who are afraid, tired and insecure are reading the words in his story and finding hope.
Only God knows what the full impact of Charles’ words will be, but I feel confident God is using them to save lives.
Do you have a story of how God has used someone’s words in a powerful way in your life? Please share it in the comments.
