“Greater” by Mercy Me

I discovered something eye-opening about myself while reading the Bible:

I discovered there isn’t any good in me. (Luke 18:19)

I discovered my heart is deceitful and wicked through and through, and it can never be anything else. (Jeremiah 17:9)

Basically, I discovered I’m much worse than I ever imagined.

I’m not a disappointment after all!

I’m exactly what God expected of me. Of all of us.

I also discovered something immensely comforting about my no-good self: It doesn’t matter!

The grace of God covers it all!

Cue the music and start dancing!

Where else, other than in Christ, can you be all those ugh things, and it doesn’t matter?

How can it not matter?

Mercy Me does a brilliant job of expressing it straight from God’s Word:

Greater is the One
living inside of me
than he who is living in the world.
(I John 4:4)

Yes, we may be tired, ashamed, guilty, and consumed with pain for very valid reasons.

Yes, we may have doubts, fears, hurts, and tears.

Satan will remind us constantly of everything we’ve ever done wrong.

He’ll assault us with every reason we should give up, hate ourselves, or hate others.

He’s only continuing what he started in the Garden of Eden — Lying!

Satan is powerful, to be sure, however, greater is the One living inside of me than he who is living in the world.

Through faith in Christ, God’s Spirit lives inside of us. (Ephesians 1:13)

Satan’s lies can never trump that! We don’t have to listen to his lies!

Voices may tell me I’m not loved, lovable, or worthy.

God’s truth says I am. (I John 4:10)

Voices may say I’m not right, that I’m a horrible sinner.

God’s truth says I’m redeemed. (Luke 1:68)

Voice may say I’ll always fail.

God’s truth says He gives me the victory through Christ Jesus.
(I Corinthians 15:57)

All my failures – past, present, and future – don’t matter any more. God looks at me and sees His Son’s sacrifice – not my failures.

Greater is the One living inside of me, than he who is living in the world.

If that doesn’t make you want to get up and dance, you either have never placed your faith in Christ and are still stuck in the UGH’s, in which case you need to read this:

“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”
~ Romans 10:9-10 (NLT)

If you’re still not dancing, you’re stuck in unbelief. That’s a bad place! Get out of there quick.

Either way: Believe!

Then listen to this song again and dance!

Greater is the One living inside of me,
than he who is living in the world.
