Just Grace — The Story of God’s Transforming Grace

Just Grace by Grace Hamrick

Just Grace by Grace Hamrick

When something spectacular happens in your life, you celebrate.

When it happens twice, you stand stunned and speechless–at least that’s what I did.

And then you celebrate A LOT!

The first time it happened, I was in high school, and it wasn’t an “it,” she was a “who.” God brought someone into my life to help change my life. God sent me Muriel.

Muriel introduced me to what it really meant to have a relationship with God. Knowing her not only changed my life–in many ways it saved it.

God used the truths Muriel taught me to draw me back to Himself after I had decided that I could do a better job of running my life than God could. (By the way, I was wrong. Oh, how I was wrong!)

Several years later and in a different city and state, I sat in my living room praying for another Muriel. I was now married with three children and wanted to be a wife and mother whose faith looked more like hers.

Could there be a Muriel in my city?

I prayed fervently, and not long after, Grace Hamrick just happened to show up at my church, Riverbend Community Church.

Grace and her husband Larry said they came to our church because the Lord led them here. I’m not kidding. Naturally, I take full credit for our church being blessed by the influence of their lives and faith, because who can doubt but that God sent them in answer to MY prayers. Just sayin’.

The first time I saw or heard Grace, I knew she was my South Carolina Muriel. I called her at home and said, “You don’t know me, but I was wondering if you’d be willing to mentor me.” She cheerfully agreed and for over a year we met almost every week.

Grace picked up where Muriel left off in teaching me how to walk by pure faith in the Lord, and she helped me fall in love with the Bible.

(I’ll let you in on the secret. Grace really reads the Bible. I mean she REALLY reads the Bible. When Grace opens her Bible, It comes alive, because, of course, as she knows and taught me, It is alive,[1] and that makes all the difference.)

Grace has been teaching me continually for almost twenty years, and I’m thrilled beyond words that countless others can now come to know the same transforming truths of God’s grace that I’ve been privileged to learn from her over the years through her recently published book:

Just Grace
The Transforming Power of God’s Amazing Grace
in the Life of an Ordinary Woman

I can’t do a better job of telling you about this powerful book than what’s written on the back cover, so I’m just going to quote it:

Just Grace: The Transforming Power of God’s Amazing Grace in the Life of an Ordinary Woman is Grace Hamrick’s story. A foolish decision made as a teenager had a devastating effect on her and an all-consuming guilt was destroying her, eventually putting her on a self-destructive path.

This memoir is a story of grace–God’s incredible, redeeming grace that rescued her. She describes how she came to realize her deep need for God’s grace through some of the heart-wrenching circumstances of her life.

We live in a world where there is much pain and suffering, and it is easy to feel like there is no hope, no future, no way of ever changing. But there is hope; and God can and does change people. There is no sin so great He cannot forgive; there is no life so messed up He cannot restore. There is no person so broken that He cannot mend. No one is ever beyond the reach of God’s mercy and grace. Grace Hamrick is living proof it is never too late.
