More of You & Less of Me is what I need! (Colton Dixon)

More of You & Less of Me is what I need! (Colton Dixon)

I’ve been thinking a lot about enemies lately.

It seems that the world is filling up with them more and more.

(Hang with me — this really does relate to Colton Dixon’s music video “More of You” below.) [Read more…]

Three Things You Need To Pave Over the Pitfalls of Change

Change isn't just coming for us! It's here! We can laugh or we can cry -- we choose to laugh!

Change isn’t just coming for us! It’s here! But we’re enjoying the ride!

If you read my post, Monday Music ~ We Won’t Be Shaken, then you know change isn’t just coming for Larry and I — it’s here!

It’s in our face! We might as well enjoy it.

(If you don’t know what I’m talking about, go ahead and read it now.)

As Larry and I have been adjusting to this big change in our life, we’ve been uncharacteristically calm.

Ok, let’s be real. I’ve been uncharacteristically calm.

If Larry were uncharacteristically calm, I’d be writing this from the hospital because it’d mean he’d gone into a coma.

In every life, a big change will bring a suitcase of emotions with it. Some of us just wear our emotions in brighter, showier colors, but we all feel them. We all face them. [Read more…]

Monday Music ~ From the Day (I Am They)

I am They. Are you?

“And this is eternal life, that
know You the only true God,
and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
~ John 17:3

From the day Jesus saved my soul, I’ve sung, I’ve danced, and my heart has overflowed, because when Jesus prayed in John 17, He prayed for me.

I have given them the words that You gave me, and
have received them and have come to know
in truth that I came from You; and
have believed that You sent Me.
I am praying for them.”
~ John 17:8-9

I am “they!”  [Read more…]

Samkon Gado: Doing the “Impossible” ~ Reach Out, Columbia Magazine

Read the powerful story of Samkon Gado, who never let the facts interfere with the possibilities.

Read the powerful story of Samkon Gado, who never let the facts interfere with the possibilities.

Those are the words that flew out of my mouth when Lori Hatcher, the editor of Reach Out, Columbia magazine, asked me if I wanted to write an article about Samkon Gado.

Samkon not only graduated from my two oldest children’s alma mater, Ben Lippen High School, but he also played one of my favorite sports at the highest level (and made the NFL record books in the process). He then went on to study medicine, just like my father.  [Read more…]

Monday Music — The Only Name (Yours Will Be) by Big Daddy Weave

Big Daddy Weave sings "The Only Name" ~ Philippians 2:9

Big Daddy Weave sings “The Only Name” ~ Philippians 2:9-10

Making a name for ourselves has been popular since The Tower of Babel, but the day is coming when everyone, everywhere will proclaim only one name:

In each life, there’ll be hundreds of impactful names that will touch our lives, but there’ll only be one name that will matter, because only one name has the power to save.

Only one name will never fail us.

Only one name says it all.

 For this
reason also,
God highly exalted Him,
and bestowed on Him the name
which is above every name,

so that at the
name of Jesus
every knee will bow,
of those who are
in heaven and on earth
and under the earth,
~ Philippians 2:9-10

Speaking of names, if you’re as curious as I was about the band’s name, Big Daddy Weave, you’ll enjoy the story I read in The Christian Music Review Blog [Read more…]
