Monday Music — “God of This City” by Chris Tomlin

Greater things are yet to come!

Our sovereign God has everything under control. He’s the God of this city, this country, this world…He’s the God of ALL.

Take a deep breath if you need, then let it out, along with all the stress, and let the words of this song “God of This City” sung by Chris Tomlin fill you with joy, hope and excitement.

The Red Thread in Noah’s Ark (Part 6) — The Time

There is safety in the Lord.

There is safety in the Lord.

Every great story has a great climax — even true stories.

We’ve reached our climax in the story of Noah’s Ark.

The time had come.

Drip, drip, drop, WHOOSH!

“In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.”
~ Genesis 7:11-12 (NIV)

God had patiently waited 120 years between giving the warning that He was sending a flood and the time when the flood gates actually opened, but finally the time had come.

For 120 years the people heard Noah preach God’s message. At any point they could have chosen to believe God’s warning and turn to Him for mercy.

The world had time to listen, believe and choose, but they refused. [Read more…]

Today’s Bible Study Tip #5 — Three Questions to Ask as You Read It Word by Word, Phrase by Phrase

Today's Bible Study Tip

Today’s Bible Study Tip

In Today’s Bible Study Tip #1, I recommended reading the Bible like a novel in order to get the overall picture of the Bible.

In Today’s Bible Study Tip #5, I recommend the opposite.

With the backdrop of understanding the Bible’s story, now read it carefully:

Word by word,
Phrase by phrase.

I’m not talking about just reading every word, but noticing the specific words chosen, each individual phrase, and the order of the words in the phrase.

You’ll begin to notice phrases you blew right past before and ask questions you never thought to ask before. At least I did.

I underline or circle each word or phrase to visually set them apart from each other. If I only do it mentally, I’m more likely to miss something.

While I’m setting them apart with my pen, I ask myself these questions: [Read more…]

Monday Music — Do You Need Strength Today? — “Strong God” by Meredith Andrews & The Vertical Church Band

Do you need strength today?

Is today more than just another Monday for you?

Is it also the beginning of a “New Normal”?

You know what “New Normals” are like. They’re rarely fun. I’ve had more than I want.

In 2006, I faced the new normal of no more sitting on the screened porch with mom and a cup of coffee or long talks on the phone. She’d passed away from cancer.

Three years later, I faced the new normal of no more fun trips with my dad or watching our kids play sports with him cheering them on from the sidelines. My father had joined mom in heaven.

Four others I love also passed away during this time. Crushing blows! New Normals. Ugh!

In the blink of an eye, our lives can change, and in those times, it may take all the strength we have to just put one foot in front of the other. [Read more…]

The Red Thread in Noah’s Ark (Part 5) — The Door

The Red Thread in Noah's Ark -- The Door (John 10:9)

The Red Thread in Noah’s Ark — The Door (John 10:9)

I’m not a ship builder, but I’m pretty certain that Noah’s ark wouldn’t meet code today.

God told Noah to build a ship so long it would cover 1-1/2 football fields, but only one door? [1]

I can’t see that getting past the ark inspectors today.

Think about having to move all those animals into their stalls and load the ark with enough supplies to feed a zoo and a family for a crazy long time. I don’t think I’m being too lazy when I say, if it were me, I’d want to add at least two more doors — one at each end, like a ferry.

So why would the all-knowing God design only one door?

It’s a Red Thread Clue. [Read more…]
